Birth Doulas are trained, experienced professionals in childbirth who provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth.

Pregnancy and giving birth is a momentous event. As a doula, I feel honored to be with women and their families during their most impressionable, vulnerable, courageous and tender moments, while allowing themselves to open up to the sheer force and unpredictable nature of labor and birth. I am a Childbirth Educator, teaching for 35 years at various settings all over the world, locally formally at Kaiser Waipio clinic, Tripler, St Francis West Hospital and Wahiawa General Hospital. Now I do private classes in the client’s home. I’ve been an OB nurse, both Air Force and civilian, for over 10 years and a labor Doula for 22 years. My husband, who is retired Air Force, and I live in Waikele, and have lived in Oahu for 21 years.

I believe that if women are nurtured and respected during pregnancy through birth, they can gain a new sense of self and can discover more things about themselves that they ever thought possible. This strength and empowerment can sustain them throughout their lives and they can teach their children, that ANYTHING is possible.

Aloha! I provide birth and postpartum doula services, as well as lactation support and education. I was born and raised on the North Shore of O’ahu. My Kiwi husband and I lived in New Zealand for 7 years, where we were blessed to experience two wonderful, natural childbirths under the care of our midwife. Through these experiences and my professional background in health service management, I became more aware of the maternity system in America. After watching my best friend navigate the maternity system on Mau’i, I knew I wanted to become a doula to care for and protect the rights of parents through their pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Mãlama is Hawaiian and means, "to care for", "to protect". Having a doula can increase the chances of you experiencing the birth you want. Contact me to book your complimentary consultation to discuss your options for birthing on O’ahu.

The birth of a child is by far the most important event a woman will experience in life. It sets the stage for her season of motherhood, and is the tangible start of the relationship between mother and child. During this amazing time, second only to the health of mother and baby is ensuring the best possible birth experience overall. As a doula I recognize the most integral piece necessary can be a mother’s main support person and dedicate my time and efforts into supporting her support! A doula does not replace, but compliments the dynamic of a mother and her main support person. When needed, I am experienced and feel comfortable in providing sole labor support.

I have lived on O’ahu for 12 years; currently living in Kapolei with my husband and our four children. I intend on spending my lifetime in the service of women and their families. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, being outdoors, and devouring chocolates!

The journey to parenthood is an amazing experience and I am always honored when I am chosen to be a part of it. I bring as much support and love to each and every birth in order to make the parents feel comfortable and taken care of so they can focus on each other. I love that I am able to witness the transformation of couples as they bring their little one into the world together. I believe that women have an innate knowledge of labor and birth and it is my goal to empower and educate in order for them to have the best possible birth experience.

I have been assisting and empowering women since 2013 and am in the process of completing my certification. I currently live in Kailua with my husband and our two children. In my free time I enjoy Hot Yoga and family beach days.
